Margaret Lennon Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Margaret and I am a dental hygienist and dental health education practitioner at Portner, Pittack dental practice. I joined Jon and Rob's team in 2000 and enormously enjoy being part of a practice at the forefront of preventive and cosmetic dentistry.

I trained and qualified at Kings College and also studied with the Royal Society of Health, gaining a Diploma in Dental Health Education and a Diploma in Nutrition.

In 1995 I also gained a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and following on from there studied at City University on a post graduate course in Psychological counselling. My dissertation topic subject was 'Treating anxious and nervous dental patients'. My particular area of interest is in communication; in getting dental health messages across in the most accessible and considered way , alongside the delivering of finely attuned clinical skills. Most importantly, is being able to work in a calm environment; delivering a holistic approach with consideration towards the diverse group of patients that we are privileged to treat at PPDP. I also became a graduate member of the British Psychological Society & am also a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy. Sara, our practice manager also invited me to be her deputy lead on Adult & Child Safeguarding at the practice.

Professionally, I was invited to become chair of the British Dental Hygienist Association (London group)for a four year period, after I first qualified and I also sat on the British Dental Association Council for a short time. Throughout my career, I continue with continuing professional development courses associated with preventive dentistry and am currently studying with NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training) for practitioners to deliver a smoking cessation programme. My career has been a passion throughout the years.

In my spare time, I have a love of music, art, theatre and travel with Rome and Iceland on the agenda this year. I also walked a marathon in 2006 and hope to be repeating that in 2016 - much needed after our 'bake off' at the practice!

Meeta Nolan Dental Hygienist

I qualified as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist (which means I can do fillings and extractions of deciduous teeth) in 2002 from Eastman Dental Hospital. Prior to that I had worked as a Dental Nurse in an NHS Dental Practice.

Since qualifying, I have worked as a Hygienist in a variety of settings; Community Practices/hospitals, Corporate Practises, Private Specialist Practices and General NHS Practices-which has given me a taste of working with different types of Dentists and patients.

I enjoy my job immensely especially seeing the improvement in oral health that the patient and I have worked together to achieve. One of my particular areas of interest is treating nervous patients and hopefully demonstrating that a hygienist appointment doesn’t need to be stressful or painful. I also enjoy educating children and young adults about how to look after their mouths and having an impact on their future dental health.

I’m also interested in the science behind the disease process, the most current thinking about how to treat and eradicate it and what the best products are for patients to use at home in order to get optimal results.

In my spare time, I dabble in the gym, like to cook, bake and entertain, enjoy gardening, love to travel (especially to Goa) and try to see as much live music as I can.
