Porcelain Veneers in Mill Hill East, North London
Veneer teeth are an extremely popular treatment in cosmetic dentistry. If you have ever seen a celebrity’s teeth and wondered how they are so flawless, the chances are they have porcelain veneers.
The process involves laying a thin tooth-coloured shell made from porcelain over the top of the tooth to replace flawed or damaged enamel on the surface.
Some of the most common reasons people come to us wanting veneers are to improve the appearance of:
- Discoloured teeth,
- Teeth that have worn down due to grinding,
- Irregularly shaped teeth,
- Teeth that have been chipped or broken,
- Misaligned teeth,
- Teeth with gaps in between them, and
- Naturally short or small teeth.
Porcelain veneers can be used to make teeth look brighter, healthier, and generally more attractive.
Many compare porcelain veneers to fake nails since they can greatly improve the appearance and even the length of the surface underneath. However, unlike a fake nail, porcelain veneers are permanent; lasting up to thirty years with the right care.
Your veneers procedure at our North London practice
Our specialist cosmetic dentist at Portner Pittack in Mill Hill East is Dr Rob Pittack. Highly qualified with extensive experience in his field, Dr Pittack is renowned at helping nervous patients requiring cosmetic dental work to overcome their fears and smile brightly again.
If you’re considering porcelain veneers, you’ll need to book a consultation with Dr Pittack to talk about your options. He’ll explain the procedure in greater detail during this appointment. If you decide to go ahead, you’ll be invited back to our North London surgery to set the wheels into motion.
The first step of your veneers procedure will be to prepare the surface of your tooth. Your dentist will need to remove a very thin layer of enamel from your tooth before the porcelain veneer can be placed. This ensures the veneer does not protrude beyond your gum line, making sure it looks and feels natural.
Your dentist will also roughen up the enamel beneath to add extra texture. This helps the veneer, when applied with a special dental cement glue, to bond strongly to the tooth.
Once the surface of the tooth has been prepared, your dentist will make an impression of it before placing your temporary veneers. These will protect your tooth whilst the mould is sent away to a dental laboratory for your custom porcelain veneer to be made.
When finished veneers arrive back at the Mill Hill East surgery, usually after around two weeks, you’ll be invited in for your final appointment.
This will involve bonding your bespoke porcelain veneers to your teeth permanently. Your dentist will carefully trim each veneer to fit the tooth perfectly and can even adjust the colour to better suit the colour of your other teeth before applying the cement glue.
Once complete, your dentist will clean away any left over cement, check your new bite, and make any adjustments that you may need.
You may need to make a follow-up appointment after having your porcelain veneers treatment to check if they have stayed in place and to see how your gums and bite have responded to it.
After this, you can start enjoying your new, flawless veneered teeth straight away.
